🎨 Art & Music at Nebula
On September 19, our President Alice Chee, Artistic Director Wenwen Du, director Lynol Amero, and Nebula artists attended Journey to the Light: An Artistic Collaboration Between Guo Yan and Pepe Hidalgo.
This exhibition reflects a six-year creative partnership between Guo Yan, whose work captures the emotional weight of rapid urban transformation, and Pepe Hidalgo, known for his vibrant, symbolic paintings rooted in Spanish cultural traditions. Together, their collaborative pieces explore themes of migration, belonging, and the search for light and hope in the face of change.
We are also delighted to share that one of the collaborative paintings from this exhibition has now become part of Nebula’s art collection, thoughtfully acquired by our President, Alice Chee. (Photo below)
In the photos: Guo Yan (with microphone) and Pepe Hidalgo share about their work. Nebula was proud to promote and collaborate with local musicians D’Arcy Blunston and Ming-xuan Chung, who contributed their artistry in preparation for this meaningful collaboration. The collaboration took place on September 25 at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden’s anniversary celebration, where Nebula artists performed a series of beautiful Chinese art songs in connection with this meaningful community event.
Moments like these remind us of Nebula’s commitment to building bridges between music, visual art, and cultural heritage — celebrating the power of art in all its forms.

🌸 Chinese Garden Anniversary Collaboration
Nebula Performances was proud to join the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden as they celebrated a major milestone. On Thursday, September 25, 2025, the Garden hosted its first Fundraiser Gala in over a decade, launching a year-long journey toward its 40th Anniversary in April 2026. The gala took place at Floata Seafood Restaurant in Vancouver’s Chinatown.
This immersive evening, inspired by the spirit of the Ming Dynasty, awakened the senses with traditional calligraphy, incense rituals, tea ceremonies, live performances, and a rare pop-up exhibition of original architectural artifacts and archival photographs that celebrated the Garden’s heritage.
As part of this celebration, Nebula artists performed a program of beautiful Chinese art songs, adding music to the Garden’s cultural storytelling. "This program is a heartfelt tribute to the gala's theme, blending music, poetry, and colour into an immersive cultural journey," Bruno Dias says.
Proceeds from the gala supported the Garden’s mission to preserve Chinese cultural heritage, foster community dialogue through art, education, and storytelling, and contribute to ongoing conservation efforts.

🎶 Nebula Chamber Choir
Nebula Performances is excited to announce the creation of the Nebula Chamber Choir, directed by Kevin Liu. This ensemble will be a space for community, connection, and creativity within Vancouver’s artistic network—open to singers of all levels who want to grow, collaborate, and share the joy of music-making.
Kevin, a singer, pianist, and educator, is beginning his doctoral studies at UBC with a focus on music education and demystifying vocal art forms. His love for choir began in high school, where he transitioned from a reluctant participant to singing in every ensemble available. Since then, he has studied choral music at KPU and UBC, taken on leadership roles, and gained valuable mentorship from world-class conductors, including Jacques Lacombe (Vancouver Opera) and Norbert Baxa.
"Nebula Performances has been the perfect place for me to develop as a well-rounded musician," Kevin shares. "I want the Chamber Choir to be a place where singing feels welcoming, joyful, and a natural part of our community."
Choir Details:
- Start Date: September 12, 2025
- Rehearsals: Fridays, 7PM - 9PM
- Season Duration: September 2025 – April 2026
