A message from the Director, David Walsh:
Carmen - the exotic beauty whose name has become the symbol for a dangerous
kind of love. Men desire her intensely but turn violent when she spurns them. For
Carmen, though, her freedom is everything! Our production relocates the story of Carmen's Tragedy to a modern urban setting but the issues it raises have been with us forever! In this adaption of Georges Bizet's powerful original by acclaimed British director, Peter Brook, and composer, Marius Constant, the excitement and energy never relent over 85 minutes of non-stop action!
In French with supertitles and no intermission.

Katie Fraser and Norbert Baxa...
This past week in the Czech Republic our Artists-in-Residence Norbert Baxa and Katie Fraser performed a series of concerts, "A Valentines Gala" with the North Czech Philharmonic featuring singers from Czech, Canada and Korea! The concert featured a mix of opera hits from Mozart's Cosi fan tutte to Puccini's Madama Butterfly. Love is in the Melody in your words...
"Thank you so much for inviting me to your very enjoyable and lovely Valentine's Day concert. I thoroughly enjoyed all the wonderful singing and piano accompaniment. All the singers were fantastic, and Wenwen directed the show very well. The studio was beautifully built, providing a very intimate and acoustically resonant milieu for the lovely music. The custom made chandelier provided the very special touch, and I couldn't help but admire how the lighting of the chandelier matched the different melodies. Much appreciated for a most enjoyable evening, allowing me to get lost in the music."
"I cried a lot and wasn't sure I could show my face to anyone. Thankfully, the lights were dimmed a bit. (I hope no one noticed me crying.) Thank you, Nebula Performances, for such a wonderful evening."
"Congratulations on another great event at Nebula! Love, with its sisterly shade of friendship, is such an attractive theme, richly represented in music throughout the ages and in every culture! You, as artistic director, were true ambassadors of this phenomenon at the concert. We enjoyed listening to European, American, Latin and Chinese music, also created in different times and genres. As always, everything was attractively decorated, composed and above all performed by the young and talented musicians you chose! Bravo! The hospitality at Nebula is always very generous and exceptional! Alice and Lynol are the greatest host on the lower mainland and beyond!!! Thanks so much for that!
It was also great to meet David Meek and his wife after a long break. Meeting Catherine's parents was very pleasant as well.
My friends who were at Nebula for the first time, were really impressed. On the way back he couldn't stop talking about you Wenwen, your piano skills and your leadership during performances with others. He loves piano music and he improvises his own compositions on the piano at home."
"I rarely have the opportunity to truly slow down and appreciate a live performance, and it is so special to watch performers express themselves so freely. Though I am overseas, I still get homesick for my motherland - China. The moment the Chinese song start playing, I couldn’t help but tear up."
"We are always impressed with the fantastic performances. The energy and talent of the performers are incredible.Your foresight and unique talent in the construction of the theatre is amazing. It is a privilege to experience Wenwen's musical expertise along with the talented vocalists. Your shining star and beautiful Alice is a rare treasure. She is a most gracious hostess, attentive to every detail."
