Our first annual Chinese Art Song Recital was a big success! Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate and enjoy the recital with us! We had an incredible time sharing this beautiful music and celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival. It was an honour to perform traditional Chinese Art Song here in Vancouver with a multicultural cast and audience!
This recital was specially curated and directed by our very own Artistic Director, Wenwen Du. Within this recital we not only featured traditional Chinese art song but also featured local Vancouver composers, Kangnian Tang and Emily Pan with excerpts from their opera Thunderstorm. Their opera is a fusion of Western and Asian music styles with the storyline inspired by Yu Cao’s Shakespearean play. We were joined by many talented musicians and special guests, such as Catherine H. Liang and Professor Jan Walls, who contributed to a beautiful night at Nebula Performances.

The Chinese Art Song Recital in your words...
"We loved all about it! The full Chinese programme was very engaging and versatile. It evolved from intimacy of traditional art song
s, through reflections derived from beautiful poetry and solo piano, then through operatic drama to conclude with the powerful ensemble! The singers put a lot of charm and artistry in their performance confirming what we’ve being feeling about the music all the time as being a universal language to communicate between people."
"....the marvelous concert. It was exquisite, the piano music and voices and poetry were all amazing and very educational for us non natives!"
