Day one of The Art of Song mastercourse with Ian Bostridge and Wenwen Du has officially wrapped up, and it was an extraordinary success. Singers, pianists, auditors, and audience members gathered for a full day immersed in the artistry, collaboration, and emotional depth that define great art song performance. The energy in the room was inspiring, thoughtful, and deeply moving - a reminder of just how powerful this repertoire can be when explored with care, imagination, and generosity.

As this remarkable week continues, we invite you to join us for two very special upcoming performances.
Ian Bostridge & Wenwen Du in Recital
Vancouver Playhouse — May 14

Nebula Performances Society reunites three-time Grammy Award-winning tenor Ian Bostridge, CBE, and pianist Wenwen Du at the Vancouver Playhouse after ten years for an evening of art song featuring the music of Hugo Wolf and Benjamin Britten.
One of the most influential recitalists of our time, Ian Bostridge is celebrated internationally for his profound musicianship, intellectual depth, and definitive interpretations of Lieder and art song. Gramophone writes, “Bostridge makes you think anew about the music in hand, interpreting all these songs as much through the mind of the poetry as that of the composer.”
Wenwen Du is known not only for her “superb” pianism (The New York Times), but also for her artistic leadership and mentorship within Vancouver’s musical community through Nebula Performances Society. New York Classical Review praised her playing as “more duet than recital,” highlighting the extraordinary musical dialogue she creates with singers on stage.
Together, Bostridge and Du have been described by The Vancouver Sun as artists who are “not just on the same page, they anticipate each other’s every nuance in perfect synchronization.” Operawire writes,“ If you are able to hear, see, savour this extraordinary work of art, through the gifts of Ian Bostridge and Wenwen Du… by all means do, and maybe more than once.”
This engagement of Ian Bostridge is made possible through the generous support of Executive Producer Alice Chee.
