We hope you’ve been enjoying a beautiful summer filled with music, art, and new experiences. It has been an exciting season for the Nebula team, and we’re delighted to share a few updates with you — including a very special performance by our Artistic Director and an exciting new production coming to our stage later this month.
Wenwen Du in Europe
This summer, our Artistic Director and co-founder, pianist Wenwen Du, travelled to Europe for a special performance of Schumann’s Piano Concerto with the North Czech Philharmonic in Teplice, conducted by Maestro Charles Olivieri-Munroe.
It was a wonderful opportunity to bring together Wenwen’s artistry as a soloist with the sound and tradition of a major European orchestra.
We’re thrilled to share these moments from her journey and to celebrate the continued artistic work of our Artistic Director both on the international stage and here at home in Vancouver.

JEALOUSY. BETRAYAL. REVENGE.
Following the stunning success of La Tragédie de Carmen last summer, Nebula Performances Society is proud to present its second fully staged opera under The Chee Series: I Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo.
A story of love, jealousy, betrayal, and revenge, I Pagliacci remains one of opera’s most powerful and enduring works. Filled with soaring melodies, raw emotion, and unforgettable drama — including the iconic aria “Vesti la giubba” — Leoncavallo’s masterpiece brings audiences directly into the lives of a travelling theatre troupe whose performance and reality begin to collide.
This production will be presented in Nebula’s intimate theatre, creating an unusually close connection between performers and audience. Every seat places you right at the heart of the action, allowing the drama, music, and emotion to unfold around you.
We are especially excited to welcome back stage director David Walsh to Nebula. Following his work on La Tragédie de Carmen, David returns to lead this production and bring his extensive experience in opera and theatre to Leoncavallo’s passionate and dramatic world.

Behind the Scenes with Wenwen Du
Our Artistic Director and co-founder Wenwen Du was recently featured in a new interview with Barczablog, discussing her journey as a pianist and collaborative artist, the founding and mission of Nebula Performances, and the upcoming production of I Pagliacci.
In the interview, Wenwen speaks about her vision for Nebula as a place where artists can “grow together, learn from one another, and feel genuinely supported,” with a particular focus on creating opportunities for young artists to learn directly from established musicians.
