Wenwen Du is one of Canada's most accomplished pianists, and one of its most enterprising: a performer, musical director, and artist presenter whose work spans concert stages across three continents. In 2024, she channeled that career into a new mission: co-founding Nebula Performances in Vancouver, a home for musical community.

Nebula Performances is "certainly a place that births new stars." (Opera Canada) Serving as Artistic Director since its 2024 launch, Du has curated concerts, masterclasses, workshops, and was Music Director for a full operatic production of La Tragédie de Carmen with stage director David Walsh, praised for its "fresh and contemporary relevance." (Opera Canada) Through the Nebula International Vocal Workshop, Chamber Workshop, Summer MusicFest, and Pianist Programme, Du and Nebula President Alice Chee have built a platform oriented around collaboration rather than competition, where they welcome emerging and established artists alike.

The Vancouver Sun wrote, Du “[displayed] a pianism freer and more dramatic than I have previously seen.” That capacity for deep musical partnership defines Du's performing life. She has appeared in solo and duo recital, chamber, and operatic contexts across Europe, Asia, and North America, and has made solo piano recordings for CBC Radio. She performed at the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a staged Schubert-Beckett recital directed by Yuval Sharon featuring soprano Julia Bullock, and appeared in a Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme alumni concert with baritone Johnannes Kammler and Abi Levis at the Aldeburgh Festival. As assistant conductor and principal coach, she worked closely with conductor Tang Muhai on the world premiere of Tang Kang Nian's Thunderstorm with Tianjin Opera House, Die Walküre with the Tianjin Symphony Orchestra, Tosca with Harbin Grand Theatre, and the China National Opera House and Opera Australia joint tour of

Madama Butterfly. She has also collaborated with conductors Norbert Baxa and Jacques Lacombe, singers including Richard Zeller and Anton Belov, and many of Vancouver's leading musicians.

Among her most sustained partnerships is her ongoing collaboration with English tenor Ian Bostridge. The Vancouver Sun wrote, “Du and Bostridge are not just on the same page, they anticipate each other’s every nuance in perfect synchronization. Their 2015 eight-concert North American tour brought them to the Park Avenue Armory, Spivey Hall, San Francisco Performances, and the Vancouver Recital Society. San Francisco Classical Voice described Du's playing as "strikingly sharp, poignant, and vibrant" and the New York Times called her "superb."Their performances have taken them on a South Korean tour, performances in China including Youth Music Culture Greater Bay Area (Guangdong Province), The Dallas Opera, Cal Performances (Berkeley), Music Beyond (Ottawa), Schloss Elmau (Germany), and return engagements to San Francisco Performances and Vancouver Recital Society.

In May 2026, they will perform in Ottawa and at Nebula, their first concert in Vancouver in ten years, and co-lead an Art Song Master Course at Nebula. It is a full-circle moment for Du, who first met Bostridge as a member of the Britten-Pears Young Artist Program.

Later this summer, Du will perform the Schumann Piano Concerto with Canadian conductor Charles Olivieri-Munroe in Teplice, Czech Republic.

Whether on stage at a major international venue or mentoring young musicians at Nebula, Du's goal is the same: build community and bring people together through music.

Whether performing on the international stage or mentoring the next generation of musicians at Nebula Performances, Du is dedicated to building community, bringing people together, and creating accessibility in classical music for everyone.
