Mariana Iguavita

Guest Artist

Mariana Iguavita is a Guatemalan-Colombian soprano. She completed her Bachelor of Music in Opera Performance at the University of British Columbia, under the guidance of Professor Nancy Hermiston. She began her vocal training at age 9 in Guatemala City, where she attended the National Conservatory “Germán Alcántara”. Mariana was part of the theatre company “Escenarte” acclaimed for its Shakespearean and musical theatre productions, from 2016-2019. She was casted for roles in plays like Macbeth, Richard III, The Rope, and Cinderella, also completing the theatre program with the same company. Mariana also participated in operas like La Bohème and La Traviata as a chorus member and numerous symphonic concerts with Guatemalan opera company Querido Arte. Mariana has also been part of the UBC Opera Ensemble in productions like The Gondoliers, Rusalka, Tosca, and The Merry Wives of Windsor. She has performed the roles of Barbarina in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Elena in Nino Rota’s The Florentine Straw Hat, and Vixen in Leoš Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen and the title role in Massenet’s Cendrillon, and Despina in Mozart’s Così fan tutte. Mariana has also been a guest soloist with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, performing the role of Barbarina at the VSO’s Summer Night’s Concert. She will begin her Master’s degree in Music Performance and Literature at the Eastman School Music in Rochester, New York.
